As the descendent of French fur traders, it seems somehow fitting that Ed Brochin grew up to be an avid outdoorsman,
equally skilled with bow, rifle, and fishing pole.
Ed was born in Southern Indiana on February 16, 1971 and split his growing-up years between rural Indiana and Southern Texas
on the border of Mexico. Both locations were ideal for hunting, and when Ed was four, his father and grandfather began teaching
him the skills he needed to be a successful hunter.
As he grew up and eventually became strong enough to wield his own traditional, wooden, recurve bow, it became his hunting instrument
of choice and he never looked back. Every year he would join thousands of other hunters in reveling in opening weekend of deer season
and turkey season in Indiana. In between seasons he would fill his time with hunting for squirrels, rabbits, and foxes, and fishing
religiously.
Being an enthusiastic hunter, Ed's other mission was to introduce his friends to the wonderful world of hunting, and over the years he
has gotten a number of people involved in this challenging sport, earning himself the nickname Archer Ed.
In 1999, at the age of 28, Ed bought a boat and started Geist Lake Charters. It was the Indianapolis and surrounding area's first taste
of guided fishing trips on Geist Reservoir, Lake Monroe, and the White River. And, while Ed can catch just about any kind of fish that
swims in these waters, he specialized in catching monster catfish and has pulled in catfish in this region weighing up to 50 pounds.
In addition, he offered daytime bow fishing trips to utilize his talents with both bow and reel.
Ed's reputation as a guide who got results spread rapidly and in 2000 he expanded his business to include guided hunting trips for
whitetail deer, turkey, javelina, bobcats, pumas, and various exotic game animals. Locations to which he offers guided trips include
Indiana, Texas, Florida, and Mexico.
In 2001 he expanded again by creating his own hunting/fishing show called "Outdoors with Eddie Brochin," which now airs nationwide
every Saturday morning on World Harvest Television Network (Channel 321 on Direct TV), as well as locally on WHMB 40 at 4:30 on
Saturday (Indianapolis and surrounding areas) and other assorted channels around the U.S. He hopes to begin airing on the Outdoor
Channel in 2006.
Later that year, Ed approached Charlie Mashak, owner of Hoosier Trapper Supply, and asked him if he could use his trade name
(shortened to HTS) to form a team of professional hunters who could teach the world through his programming how to use the HTS
line of scent products in the field. Members of the HTS Pro Team are now featured on Ed's TV show. In addition, Ed uses Hoosier
Trapper Supply products in another side business as a Wildlife Property Manager, where he cultivates land through the application of
supplemental food and minerals, stand placement, education, and select harvest.
Ed's most recent endeavor (started in 2002) has been to learn the art of hunting through falconry. He became an official Apprentice
in 2003 under the tutelage of Master Greg Thomas, and was recently awarded his General Class status. He hopes to obtain Master status
in four years. He owns a red-tailed hawk named Chase, aka Maverick on "Outdoors with Eddie Brochin," and plans to trap and train a large
female bird sometime this year.
Ed's personal goal continues to be to hunt and fish all over the world and to discover great hunting locales that he can share with
current and future hunting enthusiasts through his adventures chronicled in his action-packed TV show. Thus far, he has taken down wild
boar in Mexico, caught a shark off the island of St. John, taken down an alligator with his recurve in the swamps of Florida, and nabbed
an African aoudad (mountain ram). His greatest challenge still awaits as he anticipates a trip to Kodiak Island, Alaska in September to
take down a grizzly bear with his wooden bow and arrow.
